Lately, all I've been hearing about is the "new minimalism". It was all over the runways for Spring 2011, yet I find it hard to employ in a chic way. I love how this woman embodies the look while adding an edge. From the length of the pant to the detail of the jacket, it's effortless and gorgeous (and the bicycle doesn't hurt).
Interestingly, Bill Cunningham of the NY Times reported on the "Style Wars" happening in NY. He contrasts the trend of minimalism, as shown by the fashion industry, versus what Bill calls an "escapism" happening on the street. I'm not sure it's so black and white. The best part of styling is the combination of styles and themes.
